CO-OPTION OF COUNCILLORS
St Erth Parish Council is seeking to fill two vacancies by co-option, as provided for by Rule 8 of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986.
Regarding the arrangements for the filling of any vacancy where co-option applies, the Parish Council may co-opt, as a member, any person who is legally qualified to hold such office and who is willing to serve, provided he or she satisfies at least one of the following qualification categories:-
• is registered as a local government elector for the parish;
• has, during the whole of the preceding twelve months occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the parish;
• his/her principal or only place of work during the preceding twelve months has been in the parish;
• has, during the whole of the preceding twelve months resided in the parish or within 3 miles thereof.
Any person, who is willing to serve as a Councillor for the Parish of St Erth and who satisfies at least one of the qualification categories listed above should:
Contact the Clerk to the Parish Council to obtain an application form and eligibility form which need to be completed and returned to the Clerk by 5pm on Friday 31st July. These forms, along with a person specification, can also be found below which may be completed online or printed and posted.
As agreed in its Co-option Policy, if there are three or less applicants then the co-option will be considered at the next Parish Council meeting due to take place on 11th August at 7pm via Zoom. Should there be four or more applicants then the Council will hold a special meeting on 18th August at 7pm via Zoom. The Clerk will confirm which date the co-option process will take place immediately following the closing date for applications.
