NOTICE OF CO-OPTION OF A COUNCILLOR

May 14th 2025

Following the recent elections, St Erth Parish Council is seeking to fill one vacancy by co-option, as provided for by the Representation of the People Act 1985 s 21(2) a) which allows Members of the new Council to co-opt to fill any seats left vacant at the close of nominations provided that it is quorate to do so.

Applicants should read the following criteria prior to putting themselves forward:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must satisfy the following in order to be eligible:

(a)    Be aged 18 years or older;

(b)    Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights;

(c)    Be registered as a local government elector for the Parish of St Erth; OR have, during the whole of the preceding twelve months, occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the Parish; OR have had their principal or only place of work within the Parish during the preceding twelve months; OR have, during the whole of the preceding twelve months, resided in the Parish or within 4.8km thereof.

Any eligible person who wishes to be considered for co-option should contact the Clerk to the Parish Council to obtain an application form and eligibility form which need to be completed and returned to the Clerk by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 28th May 2025. These forms, along with a person specification, can also be found below which may be completed online or printed and posted.

As agreed in its Co-option Policy, if there are three or less applicants then the co-option will be considered at the next Parish Council meeting due to take place on 3rd June at 7pm at St Erth Community Primary School. Should there be four or more applicants then the Council will hold a special meeting – date to be confirmed. The Clerk will confirm which date the co-option process will take place immediately following the closing date for applications.
