Vacancy for a Councillor

There is currently one vacancy for a Parish Councillor which St Erth Parish Council is seeking to fill by co-option, as provided for by Rule 8 of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986.

We would encourage anyone who is passionate about your community and want to make a difference to apply.

What does a Parish Councillor do?

Councillors work together to set the policy direction of the Council, attend regular meetings, make decisions on local services and represent the interests of residents. Full induction and ongoing training are provided to all new Councillors.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for co-option, you must be:

  • aged 18 years or older;
  • a British subject, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union;
  • registered as a local government elector for the Parish of St Erth; OR have, during the whole of the preceding twelve months, occupied as owner or tenant, any land or premises in the Parish; OR have had their principal or only place of work within the Parish during the preceding twelve months; OR have, during the whole of the preceding twelve months, resided in the Parish or within 3 miles thereof.

Any eligible person who wishes to be considered for co-option should contact the Clerk to the Parish Council to obtain an application form and eligibility form which need to be completed and returned to the Clerk by no later than 5pm on Wednesday 27th May 2026. As agreed in its Co-option Policy, if there are three or less applicants then the co-option will be considered at the next Parish Council meeting due to take place on 2nd June 2026 at 7pm at St Erth Community Primary School. Should there be four or more applicants then the Council will hold a special meeting – date to be confirmed. The Clerk will confirm which date the co-option process will take place immediately following the closing date for applications.
