Works to modernise the public conveniences in Tredrea Lane are due to start on Tuesday 18 April by KPK Builders of Redruth who have undertaken similar projects elsewhere in the county.
Since acquiring the building from Cornwall Council two years ago, St Erth Parish Council has always intended to make it accessible for all users and to transform the facilities. With the award of a substantial grant from Cornwall Council towards the costs, the works can now go ahead.
It is anticipated that the works will take four weeks to complete and a temporary, inclusive toilet facility for the public will be provided on the site during this time.
The improvements will include a ramp for wheelchair users, new windows, new sanitary fittings, new wall, ceiling and floor treatments and baby changing facilities. Bike racks will also be provided as will new fencing along the boundary of the site.
In order to provide the extra space needed for facilities for disabled users, the current gents toilet will move to the current ladies toilet and the current ladies toilet will move to the current gents toilet and be combined with facilities for disabled users. New signage will also be provided to reflect the changes and improvements.
